Fame, Fortune & Lies : the Life and Music of Eileen Joyce is a window into the life of Eileen Joyce; an Australian concert pianist, recording artist, radio performer, fashionista and film star during and after the Second World War and arguably one of Australia’s finest musical exports to the world.  

 

Written and performed by Julia Hastings, Fame, Fortune & Lies, explores the back story of Eileen Joyce.

 

In this superb, one-woman show, Julia Hastings stars as Eileen as she takes us on a journey through Eileen’s extraordinary personal and professional life. The story spans some forty years from Eileen’s arrival in Europe as a teenager to her retirement from the concert platform.

 

Julia charmingly portrays Eileen through a series of vignette scenes juxtaposed with Julia's virtuosic playing of the music which was inextricably linked to Eileen and formed the soundtrack to her life.

 

Behind the glamour of international success, Julia’s poignant interpretation of Eileen reveals the tragedy and the personal demons which plagued her both on and off stage.  At times funny, and at times heartbreaking, Fame, Fortune & Lies, is a unique production combining drama and fine classical music. The show is available for regional, interstate and international touring.

 

Fame, Fortune & Lies has been adapted into a radio play, commissioned by 3MBS Fine Music and co-written with Pauline Hastings, which was named a finalist in the 2017 Community Broadcasting Association of Australia Awards for Excellence in Music Programming.
